Gary Anthony Sturgis is a New Orleans born actor, writer, director, consultant, and producer. He is best-known for his portrayal of the villain in Tyler Perry's biggest hit films, "Diary of A Mad Black Woman" (as Jamison Jackson) and "Daddy's Little Girls" (as Joseph Woods). Gary also co-starred opposite Terrence Howard in "Pride," as (Franklin Washington). He co-stars in the comedy "Chicago Pulaski Jones" with Kel Mitchell and Cedric the Entertainer. And is currently starring on the new UMC series, “5th Ward”, with Mya and Carl Anthony Payne. 

 

A professional voice artist, Sturgis has voiced network promos for UPN, CBS, PBS and ABC, cartoons and video games (Static Shock, Batman, Scooby Doo and The Cyber Chase, Fairly Odd Parents, Spiderman). He is the voice of the Texas Rangers MLB team and heard on countless commercials on radio and television.

As a writer, Gary was a regular staff writer on the number-one urban comedy in the history of cable television, "House of Payne" and the latest Tyler Perry series, "Meet The Browns," on which he also played a recurring character. Gary has written over 20 feature-length screenplays and has packaged his works into three and four picture deals through his film company, GEMFILMWORKS.

He directed "Lend A Hand," a 90-second short film for the American Black Film Festival (ABFF), the soon to be released Lionsgate feature “2016”, a zombie apocalypse thriller he also penned, “Double Crossed” starring Miguel Nunez, Jr and the documentary “#brokenmirrors: I Am Not My Scars-The Jean Joseph Story.” Gary is slated to direct the upcoming survival story “And Still I Rise”.

Gary is the executive producer of the reality series “Living Victoria” (Seeking distribution), its brother show, “Swag G Style” the Co-Producer for #brokenmirrors: I Am Not My Scars-The Jean Joseph Story Documentary and associated producer for Joshua Tree and Pimp 24/7 (TV Movie).
